Russ has a unique sound that draws on traditional and contemporary folk/rock. His songwriting and vocal style have been compared to the troubadours of the 60's.

Russ often performs with a band that varies in its composition with instrumentation including, acoustic and electric guitars, fiddle, mandolin, piano, bass, drums, banjo and harmony vocals. Musical influences include Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, The Byrds, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, REM, U2, The Smiths, Indigo Girls and The Alarm and a healthy dose of punk.
